The Cost of an iPad Application

October 19th, 2010

I recently read a blog about how much it cost to build the new Twitterific iPad app:

While the vast majority of iPad apps are not this costly, I think this blog is revealing in that it shows what the associated costs are for working with professional development firms who have a solid reputation.

Too many times I have individuals and corporations calling me with very unrealistic budgets in mind to produce an app.  I’ve even had a retail operation ask us to develop a rather substantial app for $400.00.  I’m not sure you can even get that price using developers in Bangalore!

Please keep in mind that most apps, especially ones using the GPS and accelerometer features are not low cost endeavors.  This rule rings more true when you want to work with a professional development firm and not individual freelancers or overseas developers.

Average apps can range between 10K – 25K.  Large, complex apps such as Twitterific can easily soar into the realm of six digits.
