The Amputee Coalition: Creating Engaging Experiences That Prove Business Value

The Amputee Coalition is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals living with limb loss or limb difference.

A core part of its offerings is its Certified Peer Visitor (CPV) program. This program helps connect individuals living with loss to professionally trained peers with similar experiences to provide encouragement, information, and advice.

Problem: Lack of Data

The Amputee Coalition was facing a dilemma.

It knew peer visits were taking place, but it wasn’t getting an accurate count of how many visits actually occurred. Certified Peer Visitors had to fill out paper forms to document each visit. The process was manual, cumbersome, and not user-friendly, which meant it happened inconsistently, if at all.

Accurately tracking visit data is vital for The Amputee Coalition to define the program’s success in two ways:

  • ensuring that follow-ups and ongoing support occurs
  • building the case to continue receiving funding

The Amputee Coalition needed an easier, on-the-go method for Certified Peer Visitors to report their activity.

The Amputee Coalition needed a better
way to collect data on peer visits
to prove business value.

Solution: Build a Digital Solution to Make Tracking a Breeze

Accella created a multi-platform digital solution for Certified Peer Visitors to report visits.

We created a native app for those with smartphones and a desktop-friendly portal for those who prefer to use a computer. The digital solution enables Certified Peer Visitors to track visits in less than three screens with minimal data entry.

Accella built a multi-platform app that
empowered Certified Peer Visitors to
easily track their visits from anywhere.

Benefits: More Data Collected, Better Relationships Built

The results were extremely positive.

Certified Peer Visitors love the convenience of reporting their visits wherever they are – in the car after a visit or right in the hospital room with a visitee.

They immediately engaged with the new system. The Amputee Coalition experienced an exponential increase in reported visits, providing the crucial data it needs.

Innovating: In-app video and chat

The application opened up opportunities to fundamentally change how “visits” take place in this digital-first world.

Together, Accella and The Amputee Coalition have reimagined what a Certified Peer Visit looks like, adding HIPAA-compliant video and text chatting within the app.

Today, through the app, peer visits can take place anywhere, anytime through a secure connection.

The Amputee Coalition empowers these connections while gathering the data it needs to receive funding and offer even more robust solutions in the future.

Individuals living with limb loss or limb difference now have access to support as they need it, where they need it.
